Peter Bergman famously said, ‘I do like grand entrances but this one was too large.’ Well something similar could be said about the ‘stunning entrance’ at the unveiling of the Napoli kit for the next season.
The Italian club were throwing a party to celebrate the release of their new kit. The party which was held on a private yacht was on full swing when it was called to attention for a stunning announcement. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis called a man up who came wearing the mask of a lion. In front of an amazed crowd the man was unmasked and the new signing of Gorkhan Inler from Udinese.
The 27 year old was given the 88 number jersey and he said that he had decided to move to Napoli long back and that the announcement was held back to coincide with the jersey unveiling. However the news about the move had already been made public when Udinese’s coach had remarked that the club would be looking to replace the midfield position vacated by Inler’s transfer.
The Swiss midfielder moves to a club that will be playing in the Champions League following their strong showing in Serie A last year. Though no financial details of the deal were released some media reports claim that Napoli paid 12 million euros to gain the services of the Swiss midfielder.
Inler may have gotten his way with the transfer to Napoli but he shall have huge competition keeping up with the buzz generated with his entrance at the club. If he can match that, Napoli would be a difficult proposition for a lot of teams next year especially in Europe as they are an unknown quantity.
