Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters has clinched the second place in the women’s tennis rankings that was released on Monday. Her opponent at the finals, Li Na from China has moved to the seventh place, bringing laurels to the country. But Denmark born Caroline Wozniacki holds her throne with 8,655 points at hand. Clijsters has to make up 140 more points to level with the topper.
On the other side of the sport, the British press doubts whether their key player Andy Murray would ever win a major title in his career. The entire nation was hopeful of his win at the finals on Sunday. But on the contrary, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won the title leaving the British in shock. Murray has now lost three sets Major finals, without getting the sets in any of them. Leading journals had said that “The world is full of tennis coaches and somewhere out there must be one capable of providing the combination of discipline and encouragement necessary to focus the unruly instincts that undid Murray once again on Sunday”.
Overcoming these critics and comments on him, I hope that he would turn up again as an extra valiant warrior back to the tennis warfront!
