Dec 14: Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki was very fortunate enough to be crowned as International Tennis Federation World Champion 2010, despite being not winning single Grand Slam this year. The 20 year old young player has overtaken the 13 times Grand Slam winner Serena Williams and succeeded in stealing her championship. Caroline has won 6 tournaments this year. “To be listed in the category of all the former champions is something I’m very proud of and it feels very special to me,” said the new World Champion Caroline. On the other hand Rafael Nadal, who won the French Open, US Open and the Wimbledon this year, maintains his championship from his rival Roger Federer.
The 24 year old young player ended the year on a very high note, by regaining the men’s title. Despite being injury to his knees many times, the Spaniard overcame all of these and was successful in clinching the French Open five times, while Wimbledon for two times. He then became the youngest ever player and World’s seventh in the history, to end the year by winning Grand Slam at the US Open in September and at the same time becoming the World Champion in the same year. Rafael Nadal has won all the major Tennis tournaments, including the Olympic gold medal and two Davis Cups in his career.
“It’s a big honour for me to be named second time World Champion,” said Spaniard. “After having many problems and difficulties in 2009, regaining the top spot and finally winning the US Open, gave a great relief to me. My only aim is to keep improving all time and play much better than the previous year,” added Nadal.
