On 6 May, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will do battle in the sides’ final domestic meeting of the current campaign. The Camp Nou will play host to one of the most eagerly anticipated events in world sport: what promises to be another thrilling #ElClasico showdown. However, the thrills and spills served up by this most attractive of match-ups are also set to wow LaLiga fans in a host of far-flung destinations, including New York, Buenos Aires, Jakarta and numerous cities within Europe, Asia and Latin America. Several locations across the aforementioned continents have been chosen to bring all the excitement of this global event closer to LaLiga’s international fans.
New York is poised to host its second screening event, courtesy of LaLiga and beIN SPORTS, and supporters won’t miss a kick with the action to be beamed back from the Catalan capital on giant screens. Fans will descend on the Pier 26 complex, where they’ll get to rub shoulders with former Barça hitman and LaLiga ambassador David Villa. Live music, food trucks and a VIP zone will keep attendees entertained in the build-up to the big kick-off from 12:00 local time.
The #ElClasico hotspot in Argentina will be the Argentine Polo Ground in Palermo, Buenos Aires. The locals will get to lap up the best of DirecTV’s coverage, with the 4K broadcast on Samsung screens representing a first for the Argentine capital in terms of sporting broadcasts of this scale. Former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert will be on hand to interact with fans and the Dutchman will be just one of a number of attractions on offer, with a shirt exhibition, photo booth, competitions, prizes and a DJ all planned as a part of the festivities. The venue has a capacity of 5,000 and fans will be able to enjoy the fun from 14:00 local time.
Meanwhile, in what will also represent a first, LaLiga aficionados in Chile and Colombia are poised to take in DirecTV’s coverage in 4K, thanks to the collaboration of Samsung. What’s more, the Bogota event will see LaLiga-watching fans given the opportunity to feast their eyes on the kits of all 20 LaLiga Santander teams, whilst a model of the LaLiga trophy will also be on display.
Over 15,000 km away, LaLiga’s Jakarta-based fans won’t be deterred by the fact that the match action begins at 01:45 local time and are sure to flock to an event organised by Indonesian broadcaster SCTV in collaboration with LaLiga. Spaniard Luis Milla, who coaches the Indonesian national team and turned out for both Los Merengues and Los Azulgranas in his playing days, will take in the encounter alongside thousands of fans. A large shirt exhibition, a football clinic and other activities will ensure it’s a night to remember for LaLiga followers in the Indonesian capital.
Elsewhere in Asia, the final preparations are coming together in Delhi, where LaLiga and the Instituto Cervantes have teamed up to offer fans the chance to watch the very best of SONY’s big-match coverage. Taking their places amongst the crowd will be the winners of competitions run on social media, students from the Instituto Cervantes, which promotes the teaching, study and use of the Spanish language internationally, and members of local Real Madrid and Barcelona supporters’ clubs. The event, which will be held in a lecture hall at the Spanish government agency’s Delhi school, will be attended by Carlos Varona, the school’s director and Jose Ramon Barañano, the Spanish ambassador to India.
Meanwhile, back in Europe, official LaLiga broadcaster ELEVEN SPORTS will show the action live in 11 cinemas across Belgium and one in Luxembourg. Former Real Madrid midfielder Christian Karembeu is set to mingle with fans that attend the Brussels event. Bratislava-based followers will also be able to catch all of the action in live screenings in two cinemas, courtesy of broadcaster Digi Sport. Elsewhere, in an initiative organised by LaLiga alongside Viasat Sport and Fodboldfabrikken, fans in Copenhagen will revel in the opportunity to enjoy #ElClasico in a special extravaganza featuring a pre-match football tournament before participants settle down to watch their heroes strut their stuff on a giant screen.
In addition to the live screenings, the mouth-watering tussle will also be played out on social media, with global conversation revolving around the #ElClasico hashtag. Meanwhile, LaLiga’s official profiles on Twitter (@LaLiga, @LaLigaEN and @LaLigaArab), Facebook (facebook.com/LaLiga) and Instagram (@LaLiga) will be your first port of call for the best photos and videos of the various events published in real time. In the build-up to the jaw-dropping clash, LaLiga’s digital channels will offer you all you could possibly want to know about the match and keep you bang up to date with the latest news from both camps.
