The two arch-rivals will meet once again at the fiercest competition tonight at Mumbai’s historic Wankhede Stadium. Yes, you guessed it right! Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the two champion teams will kick start VIVO IPL 2018 (Season 11) today. The match is going to be a riveting one for sure.
Interestingly, CSK played its last match at the IPL 2015 finale against the same team – Mumbai Indians – in which the latter emerged victorious and won IPL 2015 trophy. In the subsequent months, CSK were barred from participating in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017 by the Lodha Committee on alleged financial embezzlement by CSK franchisee owners.
Two-time champion, CSK, will definitely try to start their IPL 11 campaign on a winning note. And beating Mumbai Indians at their own ground is nothing short of an icing on the cake to boost up confidence of the team. Both teams have played their cards well at the IPL Auction 2018 held in February this year.
Team News for Chennai Super Kings
For CSK, batting unit is quite strong with the inclusion of Ambati Rayudu, who single handedly won many matches for his previous franchisee Mumbai. Also, the likes of Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadhav, Suresh Raina and Captain MS Dhoni will be crucial for the team as a whole. Bad News is the absence of star batsman Faf du Plessis who won’t participate in the first few IPL matches for CSK this season.
CSK’s bowling powerhouse will have some big stalwarts like Harbhajan Singh and Dwayne Bravo. Both have been proven match winners in T20 matches in their own respects. Interestingly, both are good all-rounders and can bat well in dire situations at a faster rate. All eyes will also stick at wondrous spin trio of Ravinder Jadeja, Imran Tahir and Karn Sharma. CSK’s spin trio will be expected to trouble Mumbai’s batsmen more in tonight’s clash.
Team News for Mumbai Indians
IPL 2017 Champion, Mumbai Indians have good hitters in Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Pandya brothers. Protea’s star all-rounder JP Duminy will be definitely an asset for this well-balanced team. JP Duminy is a T20 specialist and Mumbaikars will have a lot of expectations from him.
Mumbai’s bowling unit will be as lethal as it can be. It includes the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Pat Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mitchell McClenaghan. If any bowler shines on the ground then it will difficult for the opponent to easily quash them. The team has a good combination of pace and spin.
