The World Number 9, Switzerland’s three-time Grand Slam champion, Stanislas Wawrinka ends his journey in Melbourne in the second round of the 2018 Australian Open to an American tennis player, Tennys Sandgren.
Tennys Sandgren, his jaws dropped when he witnessed the insanity in Stan’s tennis in the 2016 U.S. Open final. The World Number 97 from the US, prevailed over the Swiss in straight sets. Wawrinka was struggling with his knee injury in the scorching heat of Melbourne. The American allowed Stan to win just two games in the first set. In the second set, Stan could manage to win just a game. The pain of Stan’s injury was escalating, the Swiss did not want to give up and produced his best to stay in the match. However, the Sandgren served out to wrap up the match 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 64 of the Aussie Open. Nevertheless, Wawrinka was thankful to step on the courts of Melbourne as he recently underwent a surgery.
The win remarked the second Grand Slam match victory for Tennys Sandgren, and the first one coming for his opening round victory in Melbourne against Jeremy Chardy and culminated the match with an ace.
On the Rod Laver Arena, the Serbian tennis ace, Novak Djokovic proceeds to the third round of the major event, after battling with the Frenchman Gael Monfils for four sets. The 19-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer clinches a straight-set win over Germany’s Struff and makes it to the third round.
