Paonta Sahib citizens came out in large numbers to support the 3000 school students led by India’s ace Olympic shooter Samresh Jung in taking part in the Himachal State Olympic torch Run which started on 17th June at Shimla. The torch run is a part of the Himachal Pradesh State Olympic Games which are scheduled at Hamirpur from June 22nd – 25th June.
Shooter and Olympian Samresh Jung along with Cricketer Sangram Singh encouraged kids to participate in sports and shared journey from a small city to becoming sporting legends. Children surrounded the two sports stars and asked them about their achievements and the hard work they put in to bring India laurels at the international stage. Hundreds of school students surrounded the ace Olympian for autographs and selfies during the torch run. Many were also seen enjoying the company of “Jeetu” the official mascot of the state Olympic tournament, many where seen taking selfies and cheering.
Speaking on the occasion Samresh Jung said ” Its great to see such enthusiasm among kids for the Himachal Pradesh State Olympic Games. This initiative is a good opportunity for the kids of our state to showcase their sporting talent. Sh. Anurag Thakur is doing a great job by organising State Olympic Games, my best wishes with him.”
The torch which started in Shimla travelled to Solan and reached Paonta Sahib today further it will travel to Una, Nurpur, Kangra,Joginder Nagar, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and conclude in Hamirpur.
The Torch Run across districts is expected to witness the presence of India’s best athletes, many of whom are world champions and Olympic medal winners.
