Nita Ambani owned IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI) have always been a strong side though there have been many ups and downs with them in the past. In the very first edition of the IPL, which was held in the year 2008, Mumbai Indians missed reaching into the qualifying stage losing to Rajasthan Royals by a whisker.

But Mumbai Indians came back strongly a couple of years later when the team reached final of IPL 2010 under inspiring leadership of Sachin Tendulkar. However, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) routed them easily at the IPL finale in Mumbai.
Thereafter, Mumbai Indians never looked back and became stronger than ever winning the tournament twice in the year 2013 and 2015 respectively. Mumbai Indians (MI): Strengths at a Glance
- Captain Rohit Sharma is in excellent form. He bats exceedingly well in the shorter formats and led his team (MI) to victory twice in 2013 and 2015 IPL finales as Mumbai Indians captain.
- The team has a strong bowling line-up with the likes of Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Harbhajan Singh, Tim Southee and Pollard.
- Mumbai Indians also have a strong combination of quality all-rounders in its team. Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Asela Gunaratne and Krunal Pandya are some of the flamboyant spinners who are in the Mumbai squad this year.

Mumbai Indians (MI): Weaknesses at a Glance
- Opening slot is a major problem for the team. Apart from Rohit Sharma, there is no consistent opener who can play well from the very start of the innings.
- Rohit Sharma is returning to cricket after a lot of time owing to an injury. So his own-form is a matter of concern for the team.
- Once the top order fails MI middle order scores pathetically.
- MI failed to reach into the play-off round last year despite they were IPL champion at that time.
- MI has no specialist overseas off-spinner of repute in the side. Though, Harbhajan Singh is in the team, but a famous left-arm orthodox bowler of international repute should have been an asset for the side.
