Once again, the stage is set for the famous Maharashtra derby as Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) will be at loggerhead against each other for the second time this IPL season. Interestingly, RPS made all predictions untrue last time, when they beat MI at home earlier this month.
MI lost that match despite hitting a huge 184 runs for 8 after 20-Over. RPS outwitted them easily when Smith’s swashbuckling 84-run knock helped Pune successfully chase down that total. Mumbai are currently standing at the top position at the IPL points table while RPS have just reached into the top five position.
What hurts MI now is the fact that they haven’t been able to beat RPS at Pune. But this time, MI are rock solid and may demolish any bowling or batting attack of the opponents. They have capable players who can perform exceedingly well under pressure to outwit their opponents.
Team News for Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians will definitely try everything possible to avenge their last loss at the hands of RPS in tonight’s clash. Statistically, MI have won their last 6 IPL clashes consecutively and are playing superbly these days. All eyes are set towards Rohit Sharma as he is expected to play a big knock against Pune. When top order batsman like Rohit Sharma is in form some quick fifties can be easily expected.

The opening pair of Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler are expected to open the innings again while Nitish Rana is expected to come at number 3. Then we have the likes of Rohit Sharma and Pandya brothers in MI’s long batting list. No doubt, MI are equally fatal with the ball too. They have Bumrah, Malinga and McClenaghan in their bowling armoury apart from ace off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the playing XI.
Team News for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS)
Steven Smith-led RPS are slowly but surely returning back to form. The good news is the Dhoni’s regaining of lost rhythm. During the last match against DD, Dhoni smashed 61* off 34 balls to help Pune win that match.
However, this time RPS Vs MI match is co-incidentally clashing with the 44th birthday of MI’s mentor Sachin Tendulkar, so Mumbai will definitely looking forward to seal the match with a win and present a birthday gift to master blaster in front of the home crowd.

Mumbai will try to dismiss young RPS opener Rahul Tripathi early in the game. He is consistently scoring above 30 in the last few matches. So, his performance will be key to RPS’s success in Monday’s clash. Some massive expectations will be also there from the experienced Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Manoj Tiwary and Dhoni. In bowling department, Shardul Thakur, Dan Christian and Jaydev Unadkat need to bowl well to restrict MI’s run-riot in Mumbai.
Predicted Playing XI (Both Teams)
Mumbai Indians (MI):
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Parthiv Patel (Wicket Keeper), Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell Johnson, Jos Buttler, Nitish Rana, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan and Jasprit Bumrah.
Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS): Steven Smith (Captain), MS Dhoni (Wicket Keeper), Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Daniel Christian, Manoj Tiwary, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir and Jaydev Unadkat.
