Today, around 357 players went under the hammer for the upcoming VIVO IPL 2017. This is the 10th edition of the tournament with 60 IPL matches to be held at 10 important venues across India from 5th April to 21st May, 2017.
Franchises went crazy for a lot of overseas players in particular. In a nutshell, this year’s IPL auction includes 62 batsmen, 117 bowlers, 148 all-rounders and 30 wicket-keepers. Also, a huge pool of around 130 talented overseas players was auctioned earlier today.
Top 5 highest bid players for VIVO IPL Auction 2017:
#5 – Pat Cummins (Australia): The franchise, Delhi Daredevils, bought Pat Cummins for the huge 4.5 crore INR. The right-arm fast bowler is always an asset for any team for his ability to swing the ball late. In fact, he has represented Australia in 28 ODIs and chipped in 51 wickets. Also, his solitary appearance on a test match was brilliant too. He got 7 wickets in that match.
#4 – Trent Boult (New Zealand): The Kiwi pacer Trent Boult is famous for his speed, and knack of picking up wickets at regular intervals irrespective of the formats and venues. KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) purchased Boult for a whopping 5 crore INR. He is expected to spearhead KKR’s bowling attack in the upcoming VIVO IPL 10. He has 185 wickets in 49 tests apart from 82 wickets in 44 ODIs that he played so far. Boult also has got 20 wickets in his T20 career.

#3 – Kagiso Rabada (South Africa): The Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was definitely the attraction at today’s IPL Auction. The left arm fast bowler is well versed with swing bowling. He has enough pace and skills to dismantle any batting line up. The GMR group-owned Delhi Daredevils (DD) picked up Rabada for a huge 5 crore INR. No doubt, his 4-over spell will be crucial for the team at the upcoming IPL clashes.
#2 – Tymal Mills (England): The English left-arm fast bowler is probably the most talked about cricketer at today’s VIVO IPL auction 2017. He was really an unexpected bet, but Royal Challengers Bangalore showed enormous faith in him by purchasing him for a big 12 crore INR. The left-arm-fast had an ordinary domestic season last year, but emerged as a surprise bet for the franchises and IPL fans alike. He made his T20 international debut last year against Sri Lanka. Mills has picked 3 wickets in this format. However, experts feel that the 24-year-old has a lot of potential when it comes to bowling at T20 matches. He is capable to bowl well even with pressures on.
#1 – Ben Stokes (England): Ace all-rounder Ben Stokes was the main attraction of this year’s IPL auction. The all-rounder is in brilliant form these days. He played well at the recently concluded India-England series. Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) bought the all-round for a huge 14.50 crore INR after winning the auction battle against other IPL teams. RPS were recently in news for making Steve Smith the captain of the team by replacing MS Dhoni. Franchises virtually went crazy over to pick the all-rounder in the team.
The VIVO IPL Auction 2017 has seen some surprising buys over the years, with some players going for an unusually high price, while some others going unsold.
