On Sunday, 15th January 2017, some of the best distance runners in the world will take centre stage at the iconic Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.
27-year-old Kenyan Levy Matebo is the fastest man on the starting line with an eye set firmly on breaking the course record of 2:08:35, set last year by Gideon Kipketer. Ethiopia’s Dinknesh Mekash, a two-time Mumbai Marathon winner in 2014 and 2015 is the crowd favourite for the women’s title.
From the Army Sports Institute, Olympian Kheta Ram, Elam Singh and MD Yunas are the top Indian athletes to look out for. Jyoti Gawate and first timers Tsetan Dolkar and Jigmet Dolma will also be fierce competition in the Indian women’s category.
As part of the distance running tradition, promoters Procam International organised the ‘Pasta cook-off’ this afternoon. The event witnessed a live pasta cook-out with Suprakash Mukhopathyay, V.P, TCS, Tomomi Yazawa, Manager Sports Branding, Seiko, Zareen Daruwala, CEO, Standard Chartered, David Rudisha, Event Ambassador, Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017, Yohei Takahashi, Marketing Head ASICS India and Dinar Mhatre, GM OTC New Business, ORSL donning the chef’s hat and apron.
India Inc. will be represented by many CEOs as has been seen over the years. Anand Mahindra, Chairman & Managing Director Of Mahindra Group, V Vaidyanathan, CEO of Capital First and Co- Founders of Mint Walk, Nikhil Banerjee and Shiv Nandan Negi, Gagan Banga of Indiabulls are among scores of other CXOs who will be out there in their race gear.
The Bollywood fraternity would be represented by Juhi Chawla for Clean Mumbai Foundation, Priya Dutt and Tara Sharma among others either supporting a cause or running g themselves.

Offering a total prize money of $387,000, the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017 is the richest road race in India. More than 42,000 runners will take to the roads in Mumbai for the five different races in what has become an annual event on the third Sunday of January each year.
