When Mumbai and Gujarat came face to face today, only two results seemed possible. Either Mumbai was going to win the match easily or it could go to Gujarat’s favor. But chasing a target of 311 is never easy; neither at domestic level matches nor at international clashes.
Taking their overnight score of 47/2, Gujarat still needed 265 runs to win on the fourth and final day. The pair of Samit Gohel and Parthiv Patel started off slowly in style. They knew that the first few overs in the morning were extremely crucial. They played that out well.

Credit goes to the experienced Parthiv Patel who played a captain’s knock with a well-crafted 143 (196b, 4s x 24). He stood like a rock solid at the Holkar Stadium in Indore just when Mumbai sniffed victory by dismissing Gohel (21) earlier today. Gujarat were languishing at 89 for 3 at that stage.
But experienced Patel made sure that he stuck to the wicket till end. His strategy worked. It was only when his team was just 13-run away from their maiden Ranji trophy win – Patel unfortunately got out.
Gujarat chased 310 today and Parthiv Patel’s batting was a sheer delight for the fans. He didn’t disappoint his fans and kept hitting amazing shots across the ground. His hardwork finally paid off well and Ranji Trophy came to Gujarat after a long wait of 66 seasons. The southpaw added a vital 116-run partnership with Jadeja to bring Gujarat closer to a fantastic Ranji final win. Parthiv also took 6 catch while effecting 2-Run Outs and 1 Stumping as well.
However, Chirag Gandhi the No. 7 batsman hit two glorious boundaries while helping his team overcoming the target. His first boundary was a spectacular cover drive and then followed it up with another cheeky shot in the slip that went past boundary line.
Undoubtedly, Parthiv Patel was the real hero of the match. His performance at this Ranji Trophy final was truly incredible. The 31-year-old has now captained Gujarat to win all major trophies like Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament (T-20), Vijay Hazare trophy (50-Over) and now Ranji Trophy in the last few years. He has brilliantly captained his side until now.
