Pune: India and England are ready to lock horns one more time this year as the two sides are gearing up for the upcoming ODI bilateral series. In the recently concluded Test series, India has kept its nerves and whitewashed the visitors 4-0. But England is a fantastic side and can bounce back hard anytime.
The first ODI clash between India and England on Sunday will be an epic one. All tickets are already sold out. It’s going to be houseful amidst jam-packed stadium. Fans are impatient to see how team India’s outgoing captain MS Dhoni will bat at this match.
After a long time, MS Dhoni will play his natural game without any captaincy pressure. Virat Kohli will be leading the side. Well, his meticulous captaincy at tests was astounding. He did a marvelous job there while leading the side from the front – his batting was awesome too at the India-England test series. But how he performs at this ODI series as a skipper is something to watch out for.
Jubilant English players are in the highly confident mood these days especially after beating India at the warm-up match 1 in Mumbai. But India A squad led by Rahane soon defeated the English team a few hours later. No doubt, both teams are on the warring foot now.
Latest Team News Updates
England have quality batsmen like Morgan, Billings, Roy, Root and Hales – they can chase any score effortlessly. But how they tackle the quality spin bowling of Jadeja and Ashwin at this series is still unclear.
The re-entry of Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane and Lokesh Rahul is expected. However, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Yuvraj has to sit out in the first ODI. Kohli might try Ajinkya Rahane first. The quality right-hand batsman has to play big knock or do something special to finally cement his berth in the team.
On bowling part, Bhuveneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah will tackle the pace armoury in the powerplay. Then Jadeja and Ashwin are likely to be introduced. Remaining 10-over is likely to be shared by part-timers like Pandya and Yuvraj.
Meanwhile, English all-rounder Ben Stokes is confident that his side will do exceedingly well in the upcoming 5-ODI series and 4-0 whitewash at the recently concluded test series won’t have any impact on this series.
Well, only the time will tell whether England will be able to come out of that humiliating defeat or will they again repeat the same history.
