New Delhi, 16th January, 2017: Commencing with a ring of a bell on 16th January, 2017, the greatest array of Indian youth boxing talent in 10 weight divisions, will be fighting to win the coveted Youth Championship. The championship, hosted by the Boxing Federation of India, will witness over 500 male and female boxers across 30 teams vying for top honours.
This is the third successful event being hosted by the newly formed Boxing Federation of India within a span of four months with an aim to give the much due recognition to the sport. The event kick started today with much fanfare and was decked with the presence of Shri Ajay Singh, President, Boxing Federation of India.
Fans can surely tune up and get ready as India’s latest boxing sensations, Sachin Singh, who won the 49kg category gold medal, and Naman, a bronze medalist in the 91kg section, confirm their participation adding a challenging boost to the amateur boxing championship. Youth Boxing Championship in Delhi will conclude on 22nd January.
Talking about the initiative, Shri Ajay Singh, President, Boxing Federation of India said, “ The federation is growing by leaps and bounds. We have already taken the foremost step towards reclaiming India’s rightful place as a boxing power in the world. Even though there is still a long way to go, I’m happy with the effect. As far as the youth championship goes, we will choose the most deserving players from this championship and train them at a national camp with world class facilities and infrastructure.”
On noticing the effort and dedication put in by participants, the federation decided to take the sport a notch higher. They introduced a prize money that would be given to 80 medalists (Both adult males & women) in order to push their zeal for this combat sport a bit. There will be 10 weight categories, and each category will have 4 winners. The award for the Gold medalists will be a sum of Rs 20 thousand, for silver Rs 12 thousand and two bronze medalists will be awarded Rs 7 thousand each. Sterling performances, superior ring craft, intelligent outwitting made the opening even more gripping and grilling.
