Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat unveiled the trophy for 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in the Vibrant Navratri Garba 2016 at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad today. Also present at the momentous occasion, were Shri Nitin Patel, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Deoraj Chaturvedi, CEO, International Kabaddi Federation; Mr. Anupam Goswami, Head – Kabaddi, Star Sports; Udit Sheth, Founder and MD, SE TransStadia along with captains of teams from India, Argentina, England, Iran, Bangladesh and Kenya participating in the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
The trophy symbolizes the essence of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. The swirling arc on the ‘waist’ of the trophy depicts the movement style in kabaddi while the carved out bold base defines the masculinity of the sport. The map on the outer surfaces flaring out symbolizes how Kabaddi is expanding its reach all across the globe. Weighing approximately 15 kilograms, the larger arcs on the trophy reflect the encircling of the globe through the cut-out on their surface. The globe in itself is smooth and catches the shadows of the world map on the larger arcs.
The tournament will commence from 7th October and will be held in Ahmedabad’s state-of-the-art stadium, The Arena, by TransStadia. Hosts India will be facing South Korea on the opening day of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
Star Sports is the official broadcaster of the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. All matches will be telecast exclusively on the Star Sports network and Hotstar.
