The 4th One Nation Netball Cup was held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute, New Delhi on 20th and 21st May. The annual under-16 mixed teams Netball tournament featured 14 teams from 8 states across India.
In the final match, 2015 winners Chakan, took on first time finalists SAMPARC in a thrilling contest – the Chakan team emerged victorious by a margin of 32 goals to 25. Earlier, Talegaon, also from Pune District, defeated 2014 winners Deepalaya School, Delhi, by a solitary goal 19-18 to grab the bronze medal.
The best player awards were given to Abhishek of Talegaon and Asha from SAMPARC; Froebel, 2013 winners received the Fair Play award.
The tournament featured teams from Rajasthan, Delhi, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.
The action kicked off on day one with thrilling encounters in the 4 groups. Apart from the Netball action, as every year, the participants took part in a cultural exchange programme featuring dance and music performances by the 14 teams.
The second day featured quarter finals, semi-finals, the 3rd place playoff and the final. During the closing ceremony, the prizes were given away by the deputy chief minister of Delhi State Shri Manish Sisodia, the Deputy High commissioner of Australian High Commission, Mr. Chris Elstoft, the Executive Director of the Naz Foundation (India) Trust, Ms. Anjali Gopalan, and Mr. Ajit Kumar, Chief Official of the Pro Kabaddi League.
One Nation Netball Cup is organised by the Netball and Education Trust and Naz Foundation (India) trust since last 3 years; the tournament has been designed to provide a platform for both girls and boys to play together and create social change through sports; delivering a message of positive action and gender equality, as well as uniting young netball players from across India.
