Mumbai, March 1: All-rounder Rishank Devadiga thrilled the home crowds as he scripted a 38-22 win over Telugu Titans in the Season 3 Star Sports Pro Kabaddi at the NSCI Dome here today. The match had only academic interest as Bengal Warriors had qualified for the semis by defeating Bengaluru Bulls in an earlier match. The win was the 11th for the defending champions and they look set to overhaul the tally of 58 points to go to the top. Telugu Titans finished with 38 points to end their season on a none too satisfactory note.
Needing a win to be in contention for a place in the knockout by a huge margin the Telugu Titans were never in the match except for a super raid by Rahul Chaudhari early in the match. That they just had two tackle points via a super raid for most part of the match is proof of U Mumba’s dominance.
The winners helped themselves to an 18-10 lead at half-time with Rishank Devadiga at the forefront with 6 points and Captain Anup Kumar contributing 4 raid points. Rahul Chaudhari’s was the only significant contribution for the losers with 7 points. The winners inflicted the first all-out at 13-8 in the 12th minute.
There were two all-outs inflicted by U Mumba. The second was in the 23rd minute and U Mumba went up 24-13 and by the time the third came in the 32nd minute the gap widened to 34-17. It was Rishank Devadiga all the way in attack and as Mohit Chhillar came up with good tackles all that was left for the losers was to accept their fate. Nevertheless Rahul came up with a super raid to entertain the crowd for a moment.
There was a scare for U Mumba as Anup Kumar limped off the field with a slightly twisted ankle but that was not going to alter the result. Rishank Devadiga ended with 14 points and Rahul Chaudhari with a dozen. Mohit Chhillar had six to round off a good match.
