The question of who among the duo is the best footballer has always been a hot prospect in the football world, but the serenity of the sportsmanship has taken a dent after the row resulted in murder at Mumbai. The deceased, and the accused murderer were reportedly debating over the topic, before the things heated resulting in a bloodbath. As reported by Mumbai Police, the Nigerian youth physically fought each other before one of them slit the throat of his friend.
Football is a game which do not lack in fan fights. It is almost reporting on daily basis, the overzealous fans of different clubs taking on each other, with brawling, vandalism and intimidation also included. It was reported many times before about the clashes between the fan groups all over the world. But not many instances could be pointed out, when a debate over two players resulting in fatal violence.
A vast majority of the football fans across globe will be a fan of either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. And the question of superiority of the favourites have always stirred the passion of the respective fans. The players themselves revealed about how the counterpart has helped in the cause of competitiveness in them. But things have turned bloody this time in Mumbai and is a negative indication for the healthy football debates in the football world.
Provided the awareness that football is the most ardent game in the world which evokes suppressed emotions to the surface. But what happened in Mumbai is sheer stupidity taking over sense. Throughout the history, it could be seen how football hooliganism have steered the hysteria into madness. The Heysel Stadium disaster in 1985 project one of the ugliest form of football violence between the fans. Prior to kick-off between a European tie between Liverpool and Juventus, angry Liverpool fans breached the separating fence between themselves and Juventus fans. The latter feared the attack, and ran against the terrace wall resulting in themselves crushing against the wall which made it fall. 39 people were killed in this act, injuring an additional 600 fans.
Things nasty as these, will only fuel the fire of distress against the global game. But what should be more carefully considered is the insane passion for the favourite teams have short-listed to certain players- undoubtedly Messi and Ronaldo in this era.
The Portuguese and Argentine are regularly challenging themselves, which is also aiding them to perform better. But the fans are taking chances to prove his/her favourite is the best, and is willing to go any extend to prove the point.
The most advice to the fans of Ronaldo and Messi, sourced from wisdom, is to stop comparing the duo and enjoy their game. It is highly unreasonable to compare them, as comparison is unbelievably subjective. Undoubtedly they are the best players of this era, if not of all time. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show while it lasts, and be content about the fact that we were born in their time.
