The Dhyan Chand stadium at Lucknow is likely to host Junior Men Hockey World Cup in December 2016. A new synthetic turf has been laid at the Dhyan Chand stadium, which is all set to host the prestigious tournament. The old turf had worn out and was in need of a replacement for almost a year. The fact that this hockey stadium is located inside the GGS Sports College, it will be of great utility for the young hockey trainees of the state too. Not only is the turf, the seating area also being upgraded with the chairs of the Dhyan Chand stadium all set to be replaced with new ones.
The mega Championship is going to be held from 1st December 2016 to 11th December 2016 at Dhyan Chand stadium, Lucknow.
Dhyan Chand stadium has hosted important tournaments like the Indira Gandhi Gold Cup Hockey Tournament in the past. The All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ hockey tournaments both at the senior and the sub-junior level are held here every year. It has also played host to senior women’s hockey nationals, etc. This year also All-India tourneys were held here. It is a wonderful stadium and on a new synthetic turf, tournaments can be organised in a better way. The good upkeep of such a beautiful stadium is a must.
Held every four years, the Junior Men Hockey World Cup brings together the world’s greatest teams and most skillful players for the toughest, most competitive international hockey event. Sixteen teams would take part in the World Championship, confirming the growing interest and development of the sport.
This time the fans in Lucknow will have the opportunity to witness match under lights. In earlier editions, the matches were played under the sun as the flood light was not in place.
