Former West Indies captain Brain Lara has said that India has the advantage of winning World T20 Cup to be held in India from March. India is placed with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and a qualifier. India has recently whitewashed Australia in their own den 3-0 and are looking to win their second T20 title.
“I think India will win in home conditions,” the former Test captain said following an outing at the Abu Dhabi Invitational Pro-Am Golf here on Monday.
“Their players know the pitches and they’re playing good cricket against the best teams in the world at present in that version of the game. I would definitely give them top billing.”
According to him West Indies can be threat but their main problem has been their inconsistency which has cost them matches in the past. West Indies have top T20 players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy which have played T20 leagues across the world. West Indies defeated Sri Lanka in the 2012 World T20 in Colombo to win their first T20 title. India have the experience of playing Indian Premier League and have won the first T20 tournament held in South Africa in 2007. India reached the finals of the 2014 edition where they lost to Sri Lanka.
In the recently concluded T20 series India performed exceptionally well and with the crowd support India has the ability to lift the trophy. India have top class batting line up in the form of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni. The bowlers also looks in good form after the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah who was the leading wicket taker against Australia. India have top class spinners in the form of Ashwin and Jadeja who can pick wickets, also control the run flow.
“But I must talk about the West Indies. I hope they can pick the best possible team because if they do, every other nation will be worried,” he added.
India will be captained by MS Dhoni who will be eager to win his second T20 title and if he does that then there will no better happiness in the world for the country. India have all the basis covered and if India play aggressive cricket then no side in the T20 World Sup can stop them from winning the title.
