Delhi boy’s shines, Barinder Sran impresses with his swing bowling in 1st tour match against Western Australia XI in Perth.
India began their tour down under with a T20 practice match against Western Australia XI. Indian captained by MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. WA included young Victorian spinner James Muirhead and Tasmanian batsman Travis Birt to strengthen their team.
India came out to bat with Shikhar Dhawan and Sharma and began poorly as Sharma ran himself out in the third over, India were 12 for 1 in 3 overs before Virat Kohli joined Dhawan and both of them started playing their shots. The two Delhi boys looked in total control as they stroke the ball all around the park. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli reached their 50’s in quick time. Virat struck 7 fours and 3 sixes for his innings of 74 runs in 44 balls, whereas Dhawan struck 8 fours and 3 sixes for his innings of 46 balls 74. Dhoni too was impressive with the bat coming at crucial No. 4 position. He struck 2 massive sixes in his 14 ball 22 to finish Indian innings at 192/4 in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane got out for 3 balls 2. Ryan Duffield was impressive with ball; he conceded only 21 runs in his 4 overs and took 1 wicket. Nicholas and Kelly also took 1 wicket each. James Muirhead went for 17 in his two overs.
Chasing a huge total of 193 runs Western Australia (118/6 in 20 0vers) lost early wickets. Barinder Saran 92 for 24) impressed with his swing and pace. He used the conditions at WACA and picked up two early wickets of D Short and Captain Bosisto. Umesh Yadav also bowled with pace and bounce and trouble Western Australia batsman with new ball.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin controlled the middle overs and never allowed WA to score freely. Jadeja returned with impressive figures of 2/13 in 3 overs and Ashwin also bowled economically only giving 20 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Axar Patel fighting for his place with Jadeja also chipped in with two wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs. Among the WA batsman only Travis Birt looked comfortable and he scored majority of the runs. He finished with 74 not out in 60 balls. In the end Indians won comfortably by 74 runs.
India is set to play another tour match tomorrow. India kick-start their five-match ODI series in Perth on Tuesday (January 12).
