5 records broken in 1st ODI between Australia and India




Australia won the first ODI at Perth convincingly by 5 wickets to go 1-0 up in the ODI series. Indians looked favourite after batting heroic by Rohit Sharma which helped India post a big total of 309/3 in 50 overs. The home team had other ideas, former captain George Bailey (112 of 120 balls) and current captain Steven Smith (149 of 135 balls) scored centuries and cruised to victory by 5 wickets.

#1 – Rohit Sharma 171*

Rohit Sharma’s 171 not out became the top score in ODI by visiting batsman in Australia beating the previous best of Sir Viv Richards 153 not out.

#2 – Twin 200 run partnerships

It was the first occasions in ODI history when two double hundred partnerships were scored. Initially Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had a partnership of 207 which was surpassed by Steve Smith and George Bailey match winning partnership of 242 runs.

#3 – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli partnership

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struck a partnership of 207 which now is highest second wicket partnership against Australia in Australia beating the previous best of 205 by Desmond Haynes and Barrry Richards.

#4 – 310 highest successful chase at WACA, Perth

This was the first occasion when team successfully chased down total of above 300 at WACA, Perth. Previously 274 was the highest successful run chase at WACA by Pakistan against Australia in 1987.

#5 – George Bailey’s average against India

George Bailey averages 85 against India highest by any batsman with more the 500 against India.
