Australia won the first ODI at Perth convincingly by 5 wickets to go 1-0 up in the ODI series. Indians looked favourite after batting heroic by Rohit Sharma which helped India post a big total of 309/3 in 50 overs. The home team had other ideas, former captain George Bailey (112 of 120 balls) and current captain Steven Smith (149 of 135 balls) scored centuries and cruised to victory by 5 wickets.

This was the first occasion when team successfully chased down total of above 300 at WACA, Perth. Previously 274 was the highest successful run chase at WACA by Pakistan against Australia in 1987.

George Bailey averages 85 against India highest by any batsman with more the 500 against India.
