National Academy of Sports Management (NASM) recently held an Industry Seminar – Football Masterclass – Action Off the Field. Mr Miguel Macedo – FIFA & UEFA certified Match Agent from Portugal, Mr Henry Menezes -CEO of the Western India Football Association (WIFA) and Father Lawrence D’souza – Chairman – MDFA Grassroots Program, were the guest speakers for the evening.
Mr. Miguel Macedo has been conducting matches & handling players like – Luis Figo, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane etc. He had also recently organised the Portugal Vs Russia friendly match as well as the David Beckham’s UNICEF’s charity match. Sharing his experience on managing celebrity sports heroes he highlighted that the need for networking becomes much more vital in an industry that is rapidly changing. Connections with players across many different teams and leagues has to be gradually developed for a flourishing career in sports industry. He also encouraged the students to follow their dreams and passion which lie in this industry. . Every sports player today needs an active and well trained manager. He also mentioned that there is a lot of scope for the educated and well groomed Sports Management professional in this industry.
Mr. Henry Menzes shared his journey on how he represented India as goalkeeper and is now the CEO of the Western India Football Association (WIFA).He spoke about the administration of sports in India and that Sports administration has evolved into one of the most lucrative career options with the inflow of global sports events in India. He also discussed on the benefits of hosting FIFA U17 world cup in India. Mr. Menezes is currently an active senior member of All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Technical, Coach and Development Committee since 2013.
Father Lawrence D’souza put a lot of emphasis on Grassroots Football and throwing light on the increasing need for educated coaches to train the children in the right way. It is these children who would be trained and represent Indian Football in the future.
Sport in India is gradually maturing, with a professional attitude and creating employment opportunities today. All guest speakers emphasised on how important is Sports Management education in today’s time, and appreciated NASM’s effort for the same.
