For a 17-year-old boy, it’s really tough to take a decision about one’s career, especially when one has got just 40 per cent in class XII exams. Many teens will consider it as an end of the road for a successful career, but on the contrary, it helped Murali Vijay concentrate more on his cricket career. Which later on turned out to be far spectacular than expected.
Valiant Vijay didn’t want to gain bookish knowledge only and take the easy step forward. Instead, he took the bold decision by entering into the extremely precarious world of cricket. Little Vijay became more determined to play for Indian national team when he saw Sachin Tendulkar live at Chepauk in Chennai. In this test against Pakistan, India lost by 12-runs despite a fine innings of 136 from the Master Blaster.
A decade later, the same Murali Vijay, now a more matured one, got the chance to play alongside the god of cricket in a test against Australia in 2010. He exploited the opportunity well, adding more than 300-run partnership with the master blaster, that led India win the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2-0. In the next 3 years he stayed without international cricket, but made a strong comeback in Indian test team with 2 consecutive 150+ scores against Australia at home in 2013.
Today, he is a regular member of team India’s test squad. His batting is only getting better and better with each passing day. Out of the 32 tests that he played so far, he amassed 2338-test runs with 6 tons and 10 fifties at an average of around 42. He is popular worldwide for his solid technique and strong defense. Notwithstanding he is extremely explosive in IPL and accelerate the tempo of the match as per the situation.
However, the stylish batsman didn’t have that much luck as far as his ODI career is concerned. He has managed just 1 fifty in 16 ODIs that he played in his entire career. The 31-year-old wishes to represent India in all the formats of cricket at international level. “For me, this is a new beginning and I’m looking forward to the opportunities coming for me. I think I’m batting well, which is more important, and I’m enjoying my cricket, so whichever format doesn’t matter to me so long as I’m batting.” The elegant batsman stated to the media a few hours back.
The Kings XI Punjab batsman is very happy at his performance in the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe. He played well-crafted knocks of 33 and 71 respectively in the 2 ODIs that he played in this series with 1 more to go. The right-hand-batsman also admitted that his best in ODIs is yet to come. May be, what we are witnessing now is just the glimpse of Murali Vijay era which is certain to take the world of cricket by storm in the days ahead.
