When a great player hangs his boots, his teammates try to present him with a victory. Unfortunately, the legend Steven Gerrard was not able to witness Liverpool’s victory at his farewell match against Crystal Palace held this Saturday. Steven Gerrard finished his glorious career with 185 goals scored and 709 appearances for the club. Undoubtedly, he is the best player that the club has in the last two decades.
Gerrard was overwhelmed at the support that he received at the jam packed Anfield football stadium. “I’ve been dreading this moment. I’m absolutely devastated I’m not going to play in front of these supporters again”, he stated to the English media after the match. The match against Crystal Palace was emphatically focused on the outgoing 34-year-old veteran footballer. Massive spectators turned out for the match, although the team had already lost its chance to qualify into the top four of the Champions League.
Despite Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat, a lot of football stars posted congratulatory messages over the social media mentioning Gerrard’s spectacular 17-year-long career in football.
