Long ago Mark Twain quoted “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”, the same may turn real if the latest reports mentioning Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne is taken into consideration. The legendary duo might be out of action since their retirement, but they are now planning to initiate a twenty-twenty contest for veteran cricketers soon. If they succeed, then we might see them in action on the ground once again.
Several former cricketers including the likes of Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Jacques Kallis, Andrew Flintoff and others will also get the opportunity to participate in the said contest. According to media reports and other sources, as many as 30 ex-cricketers have been offered the contract. Unofficially, the name of the contest will be Cricket All Stars League, but nothing has been finalized as yet.
It is also rumored that the US will host a lot of matches of the tournament at its newly renovated cricket stadiums in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. It is speculated that a lot of matches will be played at other cricket grounds too all across the globe in the next three-four years.
The chairman of the CA (Cricket Australia) – Wally Edwards stated such reports to be highly speculative. But these reports have already stirred a buzz within the media all across the cricket playing nations. With the involvement of Sachin Tendulkar’s name as one of the key architects of the proposed T20 league, there is no doubt that this news will create a lot of discussions in India as well. Currently the former Indian skipper is cheering for Mumbai Indians as its chief mentor in the ongoing IPL (Indian Premiere League).
Maxwell, the official agent of Brett Lee explained to the Aussie media that there is nothing wrong if the retired players come together to participate in an annual T20 event like the Big-Bash or IPL. According to Maxwell, “Lee has already received the offer to play at such a tournament, but he will agree to the same only after taking permission from Cricket Australia”, he concluded.
Preliminary media reports suggest that neither the Cricket Australia nor the ICC has received any concrete information about the proposed cricket league. It is also important to mention here that Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar didn’t speak anything about it until now.
