Last race at Bahrain saw the best result for McLaren this season with Fernando Alonso finishing 11th. Jenson Button however could not register a single lap both in qualifying and race due to technical faults. The team has however made significant changes to the power output and is looking to now make the car faster. Reliability was an issue which has now improved a lot according to the team.
McLaren-Honda partnership which started this season, has till now underperformed and the season has not been impressive in any way yet. They started right at the end of the grid in Australia and failed to finish at Malaysia. In their third race at China, McLaren was at last able to bring both cars to the finish for the first time in the season.
Ron Dennis, McLaren team boss is optimistic and said the team is making progress. Team racing director, Eric Boullier said that every race the team is working to introduce new chassis parts for better performance. He added that for Spanish Grand Prix they have made certain changes to the engine which hopefully will allow them to unlock better performance.
McLaren has also announced that they will be changing their ‘chrome’ look to a ‘graphite grey. This change is said to improve the visual impact of the cars. The team is said to also have considered the look of the car in the twilight and night races while developing the new look.
Eric Boullier also mentioned about constant improvements in the chassis design and components over the next four races. Alonso said that the team is committed to make a comeback and there is huge motivation in everybody. Alonso said that Spain will see their first step towards more a powerful and better performance on the grid. He added that the next few racing will be interesting for the team; the next race being in Monaco, will be less about power and more about the package.
