Formula One’s next season in 2016 is to start a fortnight later which is done to condense the season’s length. The season opening race at Melbourne will be held on 3rd April, said the race organisers and that too with an earlier race-start time than usual. The Albert Park Circuit, which hosts the F1 races every year in Australia, has signed a multi-year deal with Formula One which will see them host the season’s opening race till the year 2020.
The next season of 2016 is speculated to be a 21 race schedule including Italy, Azerbaijan (Baku) and a preponed race in Russia. Till date, 2012 has been the biggest season in Formula One history with 20 races and 2015 Formula One season revealed last year was to set record with 21 races. However, with Korea, Germany backing out the current season has 19 races. Formula One management said that the 2016 calendar might have been leaked into the press and media however, that it is neither official nor approved yet. There might be further change in due course of time.
This season, due to the cancellation of the German GP, only one Grand Prix race will take place in the July – August, two month period: British GP on 5th July and next Belgian on 23rd August. Perhaps looking at the vast gap between the races, the organisers and F1 management are looking to pack the races together to save time, resources and keep the fans interested in the sport.
Indian motoring enthusiasts are also hopeful about the sport returning to India after a span of two years but Bernie is tight lipped about India’s chances as Formula One still has unresolved tax issues with the UP Government which is being contested in the court.
There is a slight chance that the actual date of the events may be moved before the final list of the race weekend dates are officially announced. We need to wait and watch till the official statement is made by the Formula One management regarding the list of venues.
Last time, a F1 season started in April start was back in 1988.
