Specialist wicketkeeper Brad Haddin announced his retirement from limited over cricket with immediate effect. He was the member of Australian ODI cricket team that won the prestigious World Cup trophy earlier this year. The veteran cricketer is ending his career on a high note as he helped Australia win the cricket World Cup 2015. Although, he will be active in test matches, but fans would never witness him in colorful jersey in future. He played his last ODI in the World Cup final held in Melbourne a couple of months back.
Australia’s search for a specialist keeper – batsman ended with Brad Haddin after Adam Gilchrist’s retirement. The New South Wales born cricketer has successfully did his duties to best of his abilities. He always remained an asset for team Australia.
Haddin is the third most effective and successful Kangaroo wicketkeeper after Ian Healy and Adam Gilchrist. The 37-year-old has a total of 181 ODI dismissals to his credit while the explosive left – handed batsman leads the chart with 472 dismissals followed by Ian Healy, who has 233 dismissals in his name. Haddin comes third in the list of all-time great Aussie wicketkeepers.
“I have had a privileged one-day career and I have been fortunate enough to be involved in three Cricket World Cups and now is the right time to walk away,” Brad Haddin said. “Not many players get to write a script like mine at the end of their careers and I have been lucky enough to do just that after winning a World Cup on home soil. “I leave the team with Australian ranked number-one in the world and I am proud of everything we have achieved”, he concluded.
Whole cricket fraternity came forward to wish the batsman very best in his future. Congratulatory messages were almost flooded on social media citing the remarkable job that Haddin did for his team in his one and half decade long career in international cricket.
According to James Sutherland, the CEO of Cricket Australia, Hadds always gave maximum effort while representing his team. “We thank him for his wonderful contribution to one-day cricket and look forward to his continued performances at Test level as the team works hard to retain the Frank Worrell Trophy and the Ashes.” Sutherland stated to the Aussie media.
Bradd Haddin finished his ODI career with 3122 runs in 126 ODIs with 2 tons and 16 fifties at an impressive average of 32. He is currently positioned at 18th on the Aussie’s all-time leading ODI run scorers list.
