SunRisers Hyderabad’s coach Tom Moody and mentor VVS Laxman were all smiles today as the team’s international stars including Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Dale Steyn and Ravi Bopara joined the Indian contingent in the nets ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
SunRisers Hyderabad team, to be led in the IPL by World Cup winner David Warner, are currently practicing at Vizag’s ACA – VDCA stadium. The team is preparing to take on the two-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings in its first encounter on Saturday, April 11, 2015. VVS Laxman was seen mentoring the boys in the nets as the team trained hard under the watchful eyes of Head Coach, Tom Moody and Bowling Coach, Muttiah Muralitharan.
Currently in his third stint as the mentor for SunRisers Hyderabad, the former Indian swashbuckling batsman, VVS Laxman, is keen on developing the mental skills of the youngsters in the squad. He seemed confident that the boys will put up a good show in this IPL.
Commenting on the youngsters from the squad VVS Laxman said, “I have been very fortunate to work with a group of talented players with high potential. Over the last two years it has been a great opportunity for me to share my experiences with these talented players and it will continue this season as well. The players look very keen to learn as much as possible in the training.”
“The training today was very intense and very specific. The squad looks very balanced. I am very happy with the quality in the current squad,” added Laxman.
Tom Moody too is confident that the team will put up a good fight for every opposition as the team has been beefed up with the recent recruitment of Indian and international stars including Hanuma Vihari, Laxmi Shukla, Pravin Kumar, Kane Williamson and Trent Boult.
VVS Laxman expressed his satisfaction with the team’s overall form for this season and stated that there is a strong intent and self belief in the team to get home the coveted IPL trophy. “I think the last two years were a fantastic experience to work with the SunRisers Hyderabad. I have been a part of two franchises before as a player but the kind of environment that is created in SunRisers Hyderabad is simply exceptional and I think the management and the owners have to be complimented for giving total freedom to the coaching staff to take decisions as far as the cricket is concerned,” concluded Laxman.
