A slightly disappointed Alonso remarked, “One point would have been better. In the end it was positive that we finished the race and were able to get more experience, but in the end we have to look at many things for Barcelona”. Alonso just missed out on a driver’s championship point by finishing 11th at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Alonso feeling optimistic about McLaren’s chances at his home race; said he is ready to race for podium positions now. Alonso is betting for a huge step up for McLaren in terms of performance in the next race due in three weeks’ time at Alonso’s homeland, Spain.“I promise my fans to do everything to improve the performance”, said Alonso.
Last week’s Bahrain Grand Prix was a mixed bag for McLaren. On one hand, Jenson Button retired from the race weekend without posting a single lap time, neither in the Qualifying nor in the main race while on the other, Fernando Alonso managed to get into the Q2 of Qualifying for the first time this season and went on to finish a decent enough eleventh.
According to reports, the situation was not very pleasant in the team. After the troubles with Jenson’s car in Qualifying, everyone in the team prepared for the race in the best way with the engineers and mechanics working all night just to put Jenson Button back on the grid. However, it was very unfortunate that all was in vain. The team is hopeful such incidences will be avoided in the future.
Alonso was in a way happy about the race and his car at Bahrain. He said that it was a strange race at the desert track under the lights. Alonso firmly believes that the team will be able to fight for the top positions in the upcoming races rather than battle in the mid-field. Looking at the previous races, Alonso had a good race weekend at Bahrain, considering the fact that we was recovering from a major injury. Alonso suffered a high-speed crash during pre-testing session which made him miss the season opener at Australia.
