The World Champions Match Officials at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
Interestingly, there are four match officials who won the world cups in their careers. They were not only prolific cricketers from their respective nations in the past, but they have equally proven their talents as ICC officials too for the last few years together.
- David Boon – A prolific Aussie opener and a part of the ODI squad that won the Cricket World Cup 1987 held in India and Pakistan.
- Roshan Mahanama – The dashing right-hand batsman from Sri Lankan world cup team that beat Australia in Lahore in 1996.
- Kumar Dharmasena – The Sri Lankan off-spinner was a regular member of the squad that beats the Aussie at the Cricket World Cup 1996 held in the Indian Subcontinent.
- Paul Reiffel – The Aussie seamer was the winner of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 that Australia won at Lords in London.
These match officials have successfully ensured free and fair play of the game. More than 25 matches have already been played so far and the tournament will reach into its knockout stages soon later this month. Their astute cricket acumen is truly remarkable.
