Indian cricket team crushed Bangladesh by 109 runs to go through to the semi-finals. The 137 runs knock by Rohit Sharma propelled India to a respectable 302/6 in 50 overs before they were bowled out for 193. Initially, Bangladesh had held a tight rein on the Indian batsmen, not allowing them to score freely. They threw themselves on the field to stop boundaries and approached the ball aggressively denying the batsmen to rotate the strike. India looked in a spot of bother and millions of fans were disappointed when Virat got out cheaply. However, slowly the Indians gained momentum to just creep over 300 runs. In the second innings, Bangladesh made a good start however, it was not long before the flood gates opened and the Bangladeshi were bundled out for less than 200. There was huge celebration in Mumbai in front of Rohit Sharma’s house for his brilliant knock that helped India win this match with such ease. The winning margin was huge and hence an umpiring error that favoured India was not debated much after the match.
Dhoni is the first captain to achieve this feat who is not Australian. He beat Hansie Cronje of South Africa who had 99 wins as a captain. What is more remarkable is Dhoni has achieved this feat in his 178 ODI career. Dhoni is also the only captain in cricket to win all the three ICC tournaments- World Cup, World Cup T20 and Champion’s Trophy.
The current Indian skipper from Jharkhand also has registered the highest number of knockout wins in ICC tournaments of 9 going past Ricky Pointing’s 8. Dhoni is also considered one of the best ever wicket keeper – batsman in all formats of the game. As a keeper, he has the maximum number of dismissals (15) and catches (15) as compared to any other in the World Cup tournaments.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was appointed captain in 2007 of a very young side. Dhoni has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years from his looks to playing style. However one trait that has been noticed by the world which is the secret of his great success is his temperament and ability of handling situations under pressure. He reads the situation and the opposition very well and applies tactics accordingly. Coming from the small town of Ranchi, Dhoni has always been a humble player and stayed true to the game. He is an inspiration and motivation to a generation of young players.
