Huge disappoint maybe in store for the fans of Fernando Alonso as he is set to miss the first race of the 2015 Formula One season at Australia after a horrific crash during testing. Fernando had to be air lifted to the hospital immediately after he crashed into a wall on the final day of the second pre-season testing at Barcelona. The two time world champion is said to suffered a major concussion and could very well miss the Australian Grand Prix to be held on 13th, 14th and 15th March.
McLaren have stated that the accident suffered by Fernando Alonso on 22ndFebruary at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is grave and that the doctors are doing their best to minimise the risk factors and chances of second impact syndrome, which is normal procedure when treating athletes after concussions. Alonso spent three nights in the hospital before being released to his home in Ovideo, a northern city in Spain, for a full recovery.
On the contrary, team’s chief executive Ron Dennis said that he could not see any reason why Alonso would miss the season opener in Melbourne. Alonso too has posted on the social media the message that he will be back racing very soon. These are encouraging signs for the fans as they can expect some hope of seeing the Spaniard race in a Formula One car. Kevin Magnussen will be given the chance in case Alonso does not manage to recover in time for the Australian Grand Prix.
The official telemetry data of the speed and the car settings has not been revealed by McLaren yet. Alonso’s previous lap was the fastest he had done that day during practice. It is still unexplained why Alonso crashed or lost control of the car. Ron Dennis has stated that all the data from the car was normal and there was nothing abnormal in any aspect. Some eye-witness accounts state that the speed carried by Alonso into Turn Three, where the accident occurred, was noticeably higher. Former Grand Prix driver, Martin Brundle said the accident involving Alonso is a “very strange situation” to the Telegraph. He questions whether Alonso suffered injuries after that crash or was there some medical condition which led to the crash?
Alonso left Ferrari and joined the British Formula One team this season after seven long years. Everyone hopes that his second innings at McLaren is better than his first where he was involved in a major debacle for spying on confidential technical information from Ferrari. The result was that McLaren was expelled from the constructor’s championship and fined over $100 million. With that in mind, a mysterious accident in the start of the season doesn’t look promising for Fernando Alonso’s future.
