Former Indian cricketer and a member of India’s 1983 world cup winning squad Mohinder Amarnath, is thoroughly disappointed at the way the Indian cricket team performed in Australia over the last couple of months. First India was defeated easily at the Border-Gavaskar (Test-Series) by the Aussie and then again the team was knocked out of the tri-series in its first round itself.
The legend stated to the media in his recent briefing that present Indian cricket team doesn’t look like the World Champions that it used to be earlier. He further added that winning and losing is a part of any game, but positive intent is the need of the hour. Meanwhile, it is necessary to add that India have also lost their warm-up clash against Australia last night which seriously raises some questions.
During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, India played to the best of its abilities, but now the same team looks tired and a lot inexperienced. India’s leading cricket analyst Mohinder Amarnath added that he is missing that champion spirit now.
Mohinder Amarnath in Action
- He was instrumental for the team during ICC Cricket World Cup 1983 when India won the coveted trophy for the first time.
- Amarnath received Man-Of-the-match awards in both the semi-final and final match of the tournament.
- He played 69 tests and scored 4378 runs with 11 tons and 24 fifties. He also took 32 wickets as a part-time bowler.
- The legend also scored 1924 runs in his 85 ODIs with 13 fifties and 2 tons. He also dismissed 46 batsmen in his ODI career.
The legend also felt that India could have opted for a specialist leg-spinner for the tournament. Amongst Indian specialist spinners, only Ravhchandran Ashwin has made it to the final fifteen. Ashwin is a useful off-spinner, but leg break bowling at the green pitches in Australia and New Zealand could have been a better option.
India’s bowling department in the upcoming world cup will largely depend upon fast bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami however the team may need the help of some of its part-time spinners like Ravinder Jadeja, Akshar Patel and Suresh Raina.
Amarnath further added that India will heavily miss the presence of veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was awarded the player of the tournament trophy at the last edition of the world cup when India won the trophy second time in the cricket history. Yuvraj’s omission from the squad is definitely not going well with fans or experts either.
The 64-year-old veteran cricketer also showed surprise at some of the recent fashion by which Mahendra Singh Dhoni is getting out these days. Dhoni’s form over the last few months is a matter of worry for the fans and the team; the stylish right-handed batsman explained.
