The most pivotal thing that cricket fans want to happen at this edition of the ICC World Cup is to witness the God of Cricket – Sachin Tendulkar once again in action on the field. It is impossible many will say, but imagination could take us anywhere.
Long ago, when HG Wells wrote Time Machine, he never knew of the phenomenon called Tendulkar, but over the last two and half-a-decade the little master remained an integral component of team India. If the said machine were a device in reality, then fans would never hesitate to take a ride on it to reach into the Tendulkar era.
The Mumbaikar was heavily excited when India won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1983 for the first time. It was the turning point in his life. Sachin also dreamt to lift the coveted trophy in the future. It was this goal that kept the charismatic cricketer in action for the next couple of decades and more.
Now-a-day Sachin Tendulkar is all over in the media as the cricket fraternity goes onto the long journey of jubilation once again with the launch of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be inaugurated on this Saturday. No, Tendulkar is not a member of Indian cricket team nor does he hold any official post with the BCCI as yet but still everyone is missing him. It is his unmatched charisma that continues.
Vivian Richards has officially rated the legendary Indian as the top batsman in his all-time ODI great list. Likewise Australia’s explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell also opined that Sachin Tendulkar had to be in the list of his ‘greatest ODI team ever’. Maxwell felt that it would be an absolute pleasure to see master blaster bat with the left-handed Aussie legend Adam Gilchrist. In Maxwell’s own language he described the former Indian legend as the “absolute God of India”.
If Tendulkar is being saluted again and again, then there is a reason for such admiration. The 41-year-old cricketer has played wonderfully in most of his World Cup matches. Sachin has subsequently participated in six editions of the ICC world cups since his entry to international cricket in 1989.
