Kolkata, February 8, 2015: Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, India’s leading integrated infrastructure institution along with the Kolkata Marathon Committee, kicked-off the eighth season of Kolkata’s official running event – Srei Kolkata Marathon 2015, at Red Road, early morning today.
The Full Marathon (for Men) – 42.195 KM was flagged off at 6:00 AM by Shri Aroop Biswas, Minister in Charge, Housing and Youth Services Department, Government of West Bengal, Surajit Kar Purkayastha, Commissioner of Police and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hemant Kanoria, Chairman and Managing Director, Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, Noomi Mehta, Chairman, Selvel One Group and Lt General Raman Dhawan, VSM, General Officer Commanding and Col Commandant, Bengal Area – the Chief Patron of the Organising Committee.
The 15 KM marathon (for Men and Women, prize money only for women) was flagged off at 6:20 AM bywas flagged off by Shri Aroop Biswas, Minister in Charge, Housing and Youth Services Department, Government of West Bengal, Sunil Kanoria, Vice Chairman, Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, Surajit Kar Purkayastha, Commissioner of Police and Chairman of the Organising Committee and Noomi Mehta, Chairman, Selvel One Group while the Fun Run – 5 KM was flagged by Shri Aroop Biswas, Minister in Charge, Housing and Youth Services Department, Government of West Bengal, Dev, Sayantika, Payel, Hemant Kanoria, Chairman and Managing Director, Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited and Noomi Mehta, Chairman, Selvel One Group.
Over 120 Indian athletes ran in the Full Marathon while over 400 participants ran in the 15 KM Marathon. The Fun Run alone saw participation of over 8,000, to back the causes, supported by the Philanthropic Partners, Srei Foundation and Kolkata Gives.
Winners: The top honours among the Indian athletes (Men –42.195 KM), was claimed by Laljee Yadav who clocked a time of 02: 25: 54 (2hrs 25 minutes and 54 seconds) and won a prize purse of Rs. 3,20,000/-.He was followed by Binning Lyngkhoi (02:26:51) in second place, winning a prize of Rs. 1,60,000/- and Anil Gema Pawar (02:27:04) in third position, winning Rs. 80,000/-.
For the 15 KM marathon (Women), the first position was claimed by Sanjeevani Jadhav (56:31s), winning the top prize ofRs. 1,20,000/- followed by Shyamali Singh (56:57s), winning Rs. 55,000/- and Jyoti Jangbahadur Chauhan (57:00s), winning Rs. 30,000/-. The men winners in this category were, Aakash Dyaneswar (51:52s) in the first position followed by Chandan Singh (52:24s) and Devendra Singh Kathaya (53:14s).
Route for various races: All the three races started and finished at the Red Road (Opposite West Bengal Basketball Courts).
Full Marathon – 42.195 KM: The route went via K C Das, Lenin Sarani, CIT Road, 4No Bridge, Science City, Ruby Crossing, Ajay Nagar, Jadavpur Bus Stand, Prince Anwar Shah Road, Rasbehari, Chetla Bridge, Chetla, Durgapur Bridge, New Alipore, Majherhat, Diamond Harbour Road, Strand Road, Eden Gardens, Chowringhee, Queens’s Way, Hospital Road and back to Red Road.
15KM Marathon: The route went via Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, Hazra Road, Hospital Road, Hastings Crossing, Strand Road and back to Red Road.
Fun Run – 5KM:The route went via Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, Queen’s way, Hazra Road, Hospital Road and back to Red Road.
Presence of entertainment and sports personalities like Dev, Saheb, Soham, Sayantika & Payel, Rennedy Singh, Gurbux Singh, Jamshid Nassiri, Pradip Chowdhury, Dibyendu Baruah, Sourav Kothari and Shidhu glammed up the Marathon.
