India won a one-sided contest against the minnows UAE in Perth at Match 21 (Pool B) of the ICC Cricket World Cup. In the morning the UAE skipper Mohammad Tauqir won the toss and opted to bat first so as to put a big total on board. Unfortunately the team could not resist Indian bowling attack and were completely devastated even before scoring 100 on board. Although they posed a mere 103 runs target for India to chase, the outcome of the match was almost imminent.
With this win, India registered their third consecutive victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The UAE cricket team could not pose any threat to the mighty Indians who won the contest in a very convincing manner. Meanwhile, it is a third consecutive defeat of UAE against the men in blue since 1994.
Umesh Yadav dismissed the opener Berenger (4) in the very first over of the match. Bhuveneshwar Kumar returned to the team in place of injured Shami and was successful in dismissing the opener Amjad Ali (4) cheaply. It was only a matter of time when the UAE completely surrendered to Indian bowling attack and lost their 9 wickets too soon.
However, Shaiman Anwar (top scorer for the UAE in the match), helped his team’s score get past 100. He played well and scored 35 runs (49balls with 6 boundaries), but could not prevent an imminent defeat for the team. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin gave no chance to his weaker opponent and bowled miraculously.
The 28-year-old bowler picked up 4 important wickets and completely broke the middle order of UAE. He finished his spell (10-1-25-4) with astounding figure. Meanwhile Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav also shared two wickets amongst each other. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohit Sharma got one wicket each. Eventually the UAE were bundled out for just 102 runs at the end of 31.2 overs.
When India came out to bat they tried to settle things early. Unfortunately Shikhar Dhawan (14) was caught by Mustafa off M. Naveed. However, Rohit and Kohli helped India win this low-scoring match without any further worry. India chased down the target of 103 runs in just 18.5 overs.
Rohit Sharma 57* (55b 4×10 6×1) and Virat Kohli 33* (41b 4×5) completely crushed the minnows with their fiery batting prowess. It was heartening to see that Rohit Sharma regained his form ahead of India’s clash against West Indies. Kohli as usual played a responsible knock as the duo added unbeaten 75-run winning partnership between them.
