January 21, 2015, Goa: West Bengal crush Meghalaya (5-1) in a Group A fixture of The Coca-Cola Cup U-15 Football Tournament for the national finals.
The league match that took place at the Cuncolim Football Ground, Goa, saw Meghalaya’s Bankitlang Nongrum score the opening goal in the 20thminute which was followed by a stampede of goals by Rahim Ali (34th minute), Arnab Neogi (40th minute), Tarak Hembram (46th minute) and Abhijit Mondal (65th minute) of West Bengal. The winning goal was scored by Rahim Ali in the 85th minute.
The final round (National Finals) league matches are being played amongst Group A and Group B teams respectively where all teams of the same Group will compete with each other. The Winner of Group A and the Runners up of Group A will play with the Runners up of Group B and Winner of Group B respectively in the semi-finals. The two teams which will emerge as winners will play for the final tournament on the 27th of January 2015 at the Benaulim Stadium, Goa.
The final score line was West Bengal 5-1 Meghalaya.
The Coca-Cola Cup is a grassroots talent hunt initiated to identify potential players to tap the best talent for the upcoming for the National U-17 team for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 to be hosted by India.
The tournaments also aims at improving the imminent quality of Indian football at hand giving exposure to the players and also play a major role in taking Indian Football to the World level.
