Bhopal, November 1: United Singhs pulled off a great win after trailing for three quarters of the match as they registered a fine 64-59 win over Royal Kings USA in a close match on Saturday. After seeming to be on the losing side for much of the game, as they trailed 45-46 after three sessions, United came back very strongly in the final quarter to pull off a great win that brought them to 18 points with nine wins in 16 matches. Royal Kings are at the bottom with six points from 16 matches.
Meanwhile, soon after the first match, California Eagles, who are currently second on the Wave WKL points table got the maximum points without needing to flex their muscles as the Pakistan team Lahore Lions did not turn up.
California Eagles were awarded a walkover. The walkover for California Eagles took their tally to 20 from 17 matches, while Lahore is still at 12 points.
The Pakistanis claimed to have visa problems, but the Organisers clarified that as many as 22 Lahore Lions members, have Visas and 14 of them had eligible Visas for Bhopal. But Lahore Lions wanted their fixtures to be changed yet again.
According to the Organisers frequent changes have been causing problems to other teams as a result of which they turned down the request and decided to give a walkover to California Eagles.
Returning to the United Singhs clash with Royal Kings USA, it was a tense and close game with the difference staying inside three points for most part. The 60th match of the Wave WKL started on a high note with both teams, United Singhs’
For United the stars were Gagandeep Nagra (18 successful raids) and skipper Sandeep Sandhu, who had seven stops. Nagra was adjudged Man of the Match.
In the first quarter Gagandeep Nagra and Baljeet Singh Toor of United Singhs were noticeable with four and three successful raids respectively and Sandeep Sandhu had one good stop. Royals, raiders Tajinder Singh (4) and Bhupinder Singh (3) gained precious points United Singh went 16-15 up.
Royal Kings’ Gurlal Singh started well for his team in second session but United Singhs raider Gagandeep Nagra was again the pivot for his team. With Nagra getting great support from Lovepreet Singh and stoppers Sandhu and Jagdish Singh, the quarter ended in favour of Royal Kings with a three-point lead at 30- 33.
In the second half, United Singhs’ star stopper Sandhu made a hat trick of stops and their raiders, Navpreet Kumar and Gagandeep were again in top form. Yet Royals were equal to the task four raids each by Tajinder Singh and Bhupinder Singh. Kings stop line showed improvement as Harwinder Singh Rabon and Yadwinder Singh winning crucial points and the score was still 46-45 for Royals.
The fourth quarter of the match started with a successful stop by Sandhu for United Singhs. After 35 minutes the stadium roared with the possibility of a tie. But few successful stops by Sandhu and raids by Gagandeep Nagra took United Singhs to a win with a final score of 64-59.
