Bhopal, November 1: Punjab Thunder provided one of the most dominant performances of the Wave World Kabaddi League as they outplayed Yo Yo Tigers with 82-39 with a margin of 43 points, which is the highest so far in the Wave WKL.
In a format where Raiders are the big stars, Punjab Thunder’s stoppers, Yadwinder Singh (11) and Lakhveer Singh Lakha (9) were outstanding.
Punjab Thunder are now fourth with 17 points from eight wins and one tie. Khalsa Warriors (25), California Eagles (20) and United Singhs (18) are ahead of them. Yo Yo are second from last with nine points in 14 games.
Yo Yo Tigers won the toss and inaugurated the match with a raid, which was stopped by Thunder. Punjab Thunder stopper Yadwinder and Sukhmanjeet actively blocked raids of Yo Yo Tigers. Put alongside the efforts of raiders Talwinder Singh Tinda (4), Sultan Singh (3) raids and Yadwinder Singh (3 stops) they were off to the flying start. But Yo Yo stayed in close touch at 15-16 through efforts of raider, Gursewak, Manminder Singh and Harpreet.
In the second session started Yo Yo Tigers had a good start but soon Punjab Thunder gained control of the match. Talwinder Singh (4), Sultan Singh (4) and Gurpreet Singh (5) scored 13 raids between them and their stop line also gave support from Yadwinder and Lakha as Punjab Thunder moved to 35-26.
By the third quarter it was one-sided as Yadwinder Singh (3 stops), Sukhmanjeet Singh (2 stops), Rana Alishan (2 stops) and Lakha (2 stops) took the match out of Yo Yo’s hands. The end of the quarter saw the score move to 59-31 in favour of Punjab Thunder.
The final quarter was an even bigger drubbing as Punjab Thunder kept piling on points to finish winners at 82-39.
