It seems that the verbal fight between Australia and India has already started. Just a day before Aussie legend Glenn McGrath seriously doubted about Indian batsmen’s capability, this time Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has assured the fans and Indian media that the team can successfully beat the Kangaroo team in their home.
The star batsman spoke to media and explained that his game plan is to stay positive and determined. He also felt that the team needs to play aggressive cricket to counter the Aussie bowling attack. Meanwhile, Kohli will be leading the team in the very first test match in Brisbane due to Dhoni is injured. However, Dhoni will be a part of the team in the remaining matches.
Virat was in a very jovial mood while speaking to the media just before Indian team’s departure to Australia. Team India’s director of cricket, Ravi Shastri was also present on the occasion. Shastri in his own inimitable style term Team India as a bunch of good competitors and there is no need to panic. However, he cautioned that Indian batsmen need to stay vigilant throughout the series.
Shastri also instilled full faith on Virat Kohli and said that in the absence of Dhoni, the star batsman is capable enough to lead the team. He also felt that there is no need to get intimated by the quality bowling attack from Australian side and history book either.
India’s track record in Australia is very miserable. India had won just 2 test matches since 1985. This tells the whole story. Aussie bowlers had always posed tougher challenges to Indian team. Earlier it was the likes of Glenn McGrath, Damien Flaming and Brett Lee, but now the combination of Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle amongst others is equally lethal as well.
Ravi Shastri also believed that Australia is a wonderful nation and cricketers should enjoy the other aspect of their tour excursion too. Notwithstanding the fact Australia has a lot of magnificent tourist spots. Shastri urged that the players should not take much stress and get some time off to relax and refresh their minds.
Ravi Shastri is a noted cricket commentator and has been recently elevated to the post of director of Indian cricket team. His appointment has immediately fructified in India’s stunning victory against Sri Lanka 5-0 in the recent ODI series held in India.
India might have lost their last overseas test series in England few months back, but Ravi Shastri is confident that the team will bounce back and perform brilliantly in the upcoming test series down under. Stand-in-captain for the first test Virat Kohli is also determined to do well this time, but he refrained from making any promise. The 26-year-old cricketer felt that winning and losing is a part of a game. Hence players need to keep emotions under control. India’s itinerary to Australia will consist of a bilateral series of four test matches with the Kangaroo team and an ODI Tri-series including England as well.
