Impressive performance by Akashdeep Singh helped the Indian men’s Hockey team to crush the powerful Australian team on their home soil Perth at a today’s match. The Indian team is currently on a tour to Australia, where they have successfully defeated Australia with a stunning performance by winning the test series by 3-1.
World Champion could not perform as per the expectation. The Indian players kept their grip on the match. Aussies never seemed comfortable anytime during the match. The first goal for team India came in the 13th moment from Akashdeep. Half an hour later he again pumped in another goal to keep the game out of reach for the Australian National team.
The only goal scored by the Australian team came from Tony Craig. Indian team left no stone unturned to make the match more difficult for the host. Indian vice- captain and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh’s strong defense is truly remarkable. Aussies tried their best, but he kept all such threats away.
The first match for the visitor was not good. Though, it had acted as a lesson for them. At the very first match the Indian team suffered a heavy blow when the Kangaroos defeated them 0-4. The Indians couldn’t score even a single goal in that match. However team India bounced back in the next match and won it 2-1. This win gave some necessary impetus to the team and resulted in India’s historic series win over the hosts. Undoubtedly, this is the most memorable series victory for the national men’s hockey squad on foreign soil.
Cricket might be the most popular sport in India as of now, but Hockey is still the national sports of the nation. Everyone wants the legendary Hockey wizard Dhyanchand to be conferred with Bharat Ratna – the top most civilian honour in India at the earliest and this test series victory against the mighty Australians justifies the fact that the love for the game is still inside all of us.
Currently the Indian Hockey team is being led by the charismatic captain Sardar Singh. The final test also coincided with the 200th appearance of Singh for the national side. The captain has been successful in improving the performance of players over the last few years. Singh has debuted eight years back in 2008 in Pakistan and he never looked back since then.
Sardar Singh is the finest mid fielder captained on many important events. He led Indian team to the Sultan Azlan shah cup twice in his career; first in the year 2008, when he also became the youngest captain doing the same. And then Singh again led the team in 2012. During that time he was awarded the player of the tournament too for his wonderful performance.
