New Delhi, September 3, 2014 – The Wave World Kabaddi League (Wave WKL) got a huge boost with the formal support of the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports. The Ministry formally extended their support to Wave WKL, the first international league promoting Kabaddi.
Wave WKL has eight franchisees and is being played in F1 touring format and will be the first Indian sports league across 13 international cities.
Wave WKL matches started on August 9 in London and the final match is scheduled for November 30.
Currently, the Khalsa Warriors with four wins in as many matches is leading the table, as the next set of matches over the coming weekend will be held in Ludhiana.
Wave WKL matches will be played in six cities in India, New Delhi, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Bhatinda, Patiala and Mohali. The games will be produced and telecast live on prime time TV by international broadcaster, Sony Six in India and by PTC in international locations.
Wave WKL aims to grow the sport of professional Kabaddi as clean with world class talent and build it as India’s original contact sport and Ministry’s endorsement comes as a welcome.
On this occasion, Mr. Pargat Singh, Commissioner, Wave WKL, said, “We are proud to receive the Government support by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in our effort to gain prominence for the indigenous sport Kabaddi.”
The three-time Olympian and two-time captain of the Indian hockey team at the Olympics in 1992 (Barcelona) and 1996 (Atlanta), added, “This step takes us closer to our aim of redefining Kabaddi for Indian as well as global audiences.”
