New Delhi, August 29: Khalsa Warriors and Lahore Lions, the only two unbeaten teams in the inaugural Wave World Kabaddi League (WWKL) will face off in the first of the four clashes scheduled for the weekend beginning August 30 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
Both teams have all-win records from the three matches they have played so far in the eight-team league, which has caught the imagination of the Captial’s sports lovers, more than 7,000 of whom filled the Indoor Stadium last weekend.
The day’s second match will feature Punjab Thunder (one win and two losses) and Royal Kings USA (one win and two losses).
Khalsa Warriors, whose Brand Ambassador and co-owner is Bollywood superstar, Akshay Kumar alongwith businessman Gurdeep Singh, have won each of their matches with great ease and by over 20 points. They also have the record of notching up most points in a single match – 79 against Yo Yo Honey Singh co-owned Yo Yo Tigers at the O2 Arena in London on the inaugural weekend earlier this month.
Lahore Lions, the team owned by the Government of Punjab in Pakistan, have also won each of their first three matches.
Khalsa Warriors will look up to their star raiders, Gagandeep Singh and Jasmanpreet Singh, both of whom have won one ‘Man-of-the-Match’ each, and their star stoppers, Gurmeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Karandeep Singh.
Lahore’s stars are raiders, Shafiq Ahmed Chisti, twice Man of the match, and Akmal Shazad Dagar, winner of the other Man of the Match award, while their main and in-form stopper is Mohsin.
Khalsa Warriors Coach Tony Kalakh said, “We are looking forward to the match with Lahore Lions. I’m very sure my team will put a great show. We know Lahore Lions’ strength is their star raiders like (Akmal Shazad) Dogar and (Shafiq Ahmed) Chisti, and our players are working on improving the technical aspects to gain an edge over them.
