The FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 event kicks off tomorrow, June 15, in Brazil. The STAR Sports network will broadcast all the matches of this marquee tournament live through its network channels STAR Sports and ESPN HD. On days with simultaneous matches, a couple of the matches shall be broadcast live on ESPN as well. The acquisition of the broadcast rights of FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 brings to soccer fans live action from the world’s second most important men’s global football competition. The event, to be played from June 15-30, will bring together eight of the strongest international teams in world football to face-off for the ultimate prize, one year ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup at the same country.
The Confederations Cup kicks off with a clash between hosts Brazil and Asian Cup winners Japan. As hosts and tournament favourites, there will a major buzz amongst Brazilian fans who will expect nothing but a comprehensive victory. Brazil is expected to be firing on all cylinders with a star studded team which includes the likes of Neymar, Oscar and Thiago Silva. Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will be keen to get this crucial campaign off to a positive start by beating Japan in his second spell in charge of Brazil. Meanwhile Japan is no push overs and will be lining up all their big guns as well including Keisuke Honda, Shinji Kagawa and Yuto Nagatomo among others.
The line-up of countries includes hosts Brazil – the host country and former FIFA World Cup Champions; Champion of UEFA region and current FIFA World Cup Champions – Spain; Mexico – Champion of CONCACAF region; Uruguay – Champion of CONMEBOL region; Japan – Champion of AFC region; Nigeria – Champion of CAF region; Italy – Runner-up of UEFA region and Tahiti – Champion of OFC region.
