The Mumbai Indians seems to approach this upcoming IPL edition on a serious note as another big announcement from their side came on. It was former Indian captain Anil Kumble who quitted RCB and joined Mumbai Indians as the chief mentor a week back; here comes another announcement; John Wright – the former coach of Team India is now appointed as the head coach for the Mumbai Indians for the sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 6). Wright was the first foreign coach for India and played a key role in India’s success during his tenure. It was under his supervision India reached the finals of the 2003 Cricket World cup almost after 20 years. John Wright will now replace Robin Singh as coach, while Robin will continue to be his associate. Wright’s wide cricketing knowledge and experience will help Mumbai Indians largely as said by their owner Nita Ambani,
“It a great pleasure to have him on board with Mumbai Indians. John is immensely respected and I’m sure his cricketing knowledge and experience will be of enormous help.”
With a new chief mentor and a coach, the Mumbai Indians are all set to face this edition of IPL with a bang. Recently, they released some foreign players like Clint Mckay, Richard Levi, Davy Jacobs, Thisara Perera and two domestic players namely – Jayadev Shah and Sujit Nayak. There were some rumours that Harbhajan Singh would be released as well, but it remained as a rumour. The former Champions League T20 winners are yet to win the IPL title. Some of their retained foreign Players are Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, James Franklin, Mitchell Johnson, Blizzard, Gibbs and Robin Peterson. It will be interesting to see who captains the side in this year’s IPL as Harbhajan Singh didn’t have a good year as captain in the last edition. As the Pepsi IPL auction is just days away, let’s see what happens!
