Suresh Raina will be basking on his recent Man of the Series award from the ODI series against England. The dashing left hander was amongst the runs and was the leading run scorer of the series with 277 runs at an average of 90+ which includes 4 consecutive fifties. He scored a fifty in all the innings which he got to bat and played some crucial knocks, especially in the final ODI. He lifted the team from a critical position and gave a respectable total to defend. In the 4th ODI his unbeaten 89 helped India chase and beat England comfortably and was awarded the Player of the Match too.
All the knocks from him came at a very critical point and at tough batting conditions. Raina also achieved a milestone in this series by completing 4000 ODI runs. He has emerged as a best finisher for India in recent times. Post the 2011 World Cup, he is been a very valuable player for India both with the bat and ball. Also he is the best in terms of fielding and very good in running between the wickets. His fine recent form could be a major plus for his chances of getting selected for the upcoming Australia series.
But how good he is in Tests? Raina was dropped from the team for the England Test series ahead of Yuvraj Singh, owing to his not so good performance against the Kiwis. But with his great form and consistent performance, can he earn a place in the team for the Australia series? Let’s wait and watch what the selectors have in mind. Captain MS Dhoni was in all praise of Raina for his tremendous effort in finishing things off and delivering when it matters a lot! He also hinted that Raina could be promoted up the order to bat so as former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar. After getting his maiden Man of the Series award, Suresh Raina in a micro blogging site tweeted that,
“Extremely happy but very hungry to keep scoring! This award motivates me to work harder. Thank u for the wishes. Will try not to disappoint”.
After giving an extraordinary performance against the England, Raina enters the top ten ICC ODI batsmen list and is now currently in the 10th position. With lot of big important series lined up to follow, The Sports Mirror wishes Suresh Raina to continue his fine touch and fetch more and more success for India!
