Leonardo has insisted that there is “zero contact” with Cristiano Ronaldo, but acknowledged the heavyweight Paris Saint Germain finance means that the Paris club can attract the Portugal superstar.
Former Brazilian midfielder Leonardo is in charge of player recruitment at the French League Leaders who are owned by a Qatari Royal family. Ronaldo sparked the controversy around the Europe last year when he openly criticized Real Madrid’ s dealing with him as he sought to extend his contract which has less than two years to run. Only a handful of clubs are capable of signing the magician Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been at the Spanish club since his 80 million pound move from Manchester United in 2009.
PSG might be keen on striking a deal, as Leonardo said: “Cristiano Ronaldo? Paris Saint Germain have become a club where anything is possible. However, he still has an ongoing contract with Real Madrid and we have to realize he will not leave Madrid for just any club.”
“When we are discussing a possible transfer for a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, there are only four or five clubs that can be taken into consideration. PSG are one of those.”
Paris Saint Germain are on the verge of signing a sponsorship deal with the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) that will earn the club more than 200 million Euros a year until 2016 , a move which will help them fall in with the UEFA’s financial fair play rules.
Last summer’s arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, along with the addition of Brazilian wunderkind Lucas Moura this month, have reinforced the view that Paris Saint Germain is now a viable destination of choice for the world football’s elite.
World’s renowned left back’s Ashley Cole of Chelsea and Patrice Evra of Manchester United are also being linked with a transfer to Paris Saint Germain, but Leonardo has dismissed the talks relating to that.
There are speculations linking Jose Mourinho with Paris Saint Germain. When Leonardo was questioned about this, he had to say this: “I don’t see Mourinho leaving Real Madrid”. Leonardo has heaped praise on manager Carlo Ancelotti and hailed his efforts to bring the club forward. Leonardo said: “He came in at a very difficult time after the departure of Antoine Kombourare last December. He showed a lot of courage in accepting this challenge. He’s done it very well.”
