Mesut Ozil has been voted Germany’s player of the year by supporters for the second year running.
Ozil flood the world scene at 2010 World Cup which earned him fame and resulted in a transfer to the Spanish Giants Real Madrid where Ozil has become more mature and a dominant force. He has also earned the number 10 shirt of the club.
Mesut Ozil has been a constant face in the famous all-white kit of Real Madrid .He has in fact in the last year managed to have an edge over Brazil’s Ricardo Kaka, with Manager Jose Mourinho choosing the German’s offerings over Kaka for most part of the last season.
In a poll conducted by the German Football Association (DFB), the Real Madrid attacking midfielder picked up almost a third of the vote to win the title.
“I am proud of this award,” said Ozil on the DFB website. “It is recognition of my performances over a long period of time and the opinion of the fans is always particularly important to me.”
Lazio experienced striker Miroslav Klose took second place with 13.89 per cent of the vote. Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus came a very close third with 13.1 per cent of votes.
Borussia Dortmund had won the German Bundesliga last season over fancied and dominant Bayern Munich. However this season Bayern Munich is having a thunderous season having lost only once till now and having a commanding 12 points lead over Borussia who are placed third. Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has already admitted that the title is for Bayern’s to lose. Moreover Borussia Dortmund had lost the services of their Attacking Mid-fielder Shinji Kagawa to the English Premier League Leaders Manchester United before the start of their Bundesliga campaign in summers.
In another event for the goal of the season, veteran Miroslav Klose’s second goal in Germany’s 4-4 draw with Sweden won the fans’ vote for Germany’s goal of the season on 22.9 per cent, ahead of former team-mate- Bayern Munich striker- Mario Gomez, whose goal against Holland at Euro 2012 earned 16.61 per cent of the vote coming in at the second place. Germany had lost in the semi-finals of the competition at the hands of the runners-up Italy.
No Germans were found in the FIFA World XI though with much fancied names like those of German captain Lahm missing from the list which predominantly had Spanish players.
